On March 3rd 1914, Basil Henriques opened the Oxford & St Georges Jewish Boys club in rented accomodation at 125 Cannon Street Road in the parish of St Georges in the east end of London.

The club was sponsored by the west London synagogue and the liberal Jewish synagogue.
Nearly 50 boys aged 14 and over attended the first night and some 20 boys were turned away due to lack of space.

In 1915, the OstG Jewish girls club opened at 26a Betts Street and in 1928, through the generosity of Bernhard Baron, the Berner Street school was purchased and the club was moved to the St Georges Jewish settlement in Berner Street E1.
